RWC Kick Off

In room 22 Ms Penman drew out of the hat 'Ireland' so this is the team we are supporting for the RWC.

We still say "Go the All Blacks" though!!

Today at Hillpark children in every class have come to school in the colours of the country their class will be supporting for the RWC..

As part of our learning today we have found out a little about Ireland.
  • Irish, or Irish Gaelic is the country's first official language, the second official language is English and  is more commonly spoken.
  • There are over 4.75 million people living in Ireland, that's more than we have living in NZ.
  • The Irish capital is Dublin.
  • Saint Patrick's Day is Irelands official national holiday. The 17th of March holiday is celebrated in Ireland and in many other countries around the world.
  • The world famous Guinness beer is from Ireland.
  • Gaelic football and hurling are traditional sports of Ireland and remain the most popular sports in the country.
  • Shamrock (type of clover) is the national symbol of Ireland and along with the harp it is a registered trademark of the country.
